Our Story
Cheverton Farm is a family-run business in the Isle of Wight, which includes a 730 acre livestock and arable farm, a meat wholesale and butchery facility, BBQ catering business, contract farming and self-catering cottages. We are busy people!
Situated between Newport and Shorwell on the Isle of Wight, we specialise in rearing the highest quality lamb, beef, pork and arable crops. You can enjoy eating this meat from our award-winning farm butchery at the Isle of Wight Meat Co. The farm stretches across a steep valley with natural woodland, fields and chalky downland.
Our comfortable self-catering cottages are fully equipped and provide you with a rural retreat you won’t forget. You can see all the animals including our two miniature donkeys, have a swim in our heated indoor swimming pool, or go for walk around our beautiful downland farm with sea views.
We welcome a wide variety of activities on the farm, including paragliding, game shooting, cyclists, walkers and naturalists. The more adventurous cyclists can ride the downhill trails built on the farm by our son Sam and business partner Matt for the Isle of Wight Mountainbike Centre. Our elder son Jack helps run the farming business with his father.
We are very proud of our biodiversity with a wealth of rare wild flowers and abundant wildlife which flourishes alongside conventional farming techniques, including the rare sea eagle.
We love to share our farm and experience with guests.

Isle of Wight Meat Co.
We started selling our own meat direct from the farm in May 2019 and continue to grow as a business, selling premium cuts of our own pork, lamb and beef to top restaurants and local customers with home delivery and a Click and Collect service. We have a salt dry- ageing facility which tenderises and flavours the meat. We are also now in the process of producing dried meat (Biltong) to be sold as a high energy snack for both humans and dogs!
Isle of Wight Farm Shop
We have recently taken over Brownriggs Farm Shop near Godshill and have a wide range of our stock from The Isle of Wight Meat Co. with a fresh meat counter as well as all the pre-packed items. We also are now stocking a wide range of local vegetables, and other produce from the island . Open 7 days a week with lots of future plans!
Isle of Wight Mountain Bike Centre
The mountain bike trail centre was set up in 2018 by our son Sam Hodgson and Matt Townsend – both mountain bike enthusiasts and not afraid of hard physical work with inspirational concepts. Their hard graft paid off when they were awarded some grant funding in 2021 to extend the challenging trails around the farm, to include some of the most exciting downhill and cross country courses in the UK. They have also built some easier trails for beginner riders which was opened in April 2022 for the new season (April – October). This company is run by the farmer Andrew Hodgson and his son Jack and is based at Cheverton Farm.
